Why are some InstrumentPods listed “for 9.5” wide guard” and others “for 12” wide guard”?

InstrumentPods are designed for mounting onto two parallel rails/tubes, usually in the form of a pedestal guard at a sailboat helm. Most pedestal guards fall into two width or spacing sizes: 9.5” or 12”. This spacing is measured from the CENTER of one tube to the CENTER of the opposite tube.

The back of every InstrumentPod has semicircular grooves in the back that correspond to either 9.5” or 12” wide rail/tube/guard spacing. It’s very important to select a NavPod that matches the width of your pedestal guard, since a NavPod “for 9.5” guard” will not fit on a 12” wide guard (and vice versa). You can find the indication for whether a InstrumentPod model is “for 9.5” wide guard” or “for 12” wide guard” at the end of every InstrumentPod product title.

Is there an InstrumentPod pre-cut for the small instrument display models I’m installing?

Pre-cut InstrumentPods are available for two specific cutout shapes/sizes…

Many small instrument displays are mounted using a 3.6” diameter circular cutout. Some (not all) of the display models that use this cutout size are:
• B&G Triton (original Triton only; NOT Triton2!!!)
• Garmin GHC 20, GMI 10, GMI 20, GNX 20, GNX 21
• Raymarine i50, i60, i70, p70, p70R, ST60
• Simrad IS20, IS40
Even though the faceplate/bezel of these displays is square shaped, the cutout (which only the backside of the display passes through) is circular.

The other small instrument pre-cut we offer is a square cutout that specifically fits ONLY the following display models:
• B&G Triton2 wind/depth/speed (does NOT fit the Triton2 Autopilot Controller, which is a skinnier unit with no screen)
• Simrad AP44/IS42

If you are installing a small instrument display or component that uses a different cutout than the two noted above (some notable examples would be the B&G Triton2 Autopilot Controller, Garmin GHC 50, Raymarine ST50, engine gauges, USB chargers, bow thrusters, switches, etc.), you should consider an un-cut InstrumentPod model. Just make sure the overall size of your display fits within the listed “Usable Face” area of the un-cut InstrumentPod.

The product title of every InstrumentPod will indicate whether it is pre-cut with the quasi-universal 3.6” circular cutout, pre-cut with the square cutout specific to newer B&G/Simrad instruments, or un-cut.

Do pre-cut InstrumentPods include pre-drilled holes for mounting screws (in addition to the larger cutout for the display)?

InstrumentPods with the 3.6” circular cutout do NOT include pre-drilled holes for mounting screws. The positions and size of the mounting screw holes varies between different compatible display models. Accordingly, InstrumentPods pre-cut for these displays ONLY include the 3.6” circular cutout (allowing the cutout to remain quasi-universal). The user/installer can mark and drill their own mounting screw holes by positioning the display into the 3.6” circular cutout, and using the display itself as a guide, or by using the paper template included in some display installation manuals.

InstrumentPods with the square cutout specific to newer B&G/Simrad instruments MAY include pre-drilled mounting holes (since the cutout is not shared with other display models). Other models with the B&G/Simrad square cutout do NOT include pre-drilled mounting screw holes, but these can be marked and drilled by the installer (same as mentioned above for the 3.6” circular cutouts).

What if I need to mount a Radar, Chartplotter, or MFD (which do not fit in InstrumentPods)?
